Day 5 Roque El Cano ascent/El Chorillo viewpoint/onwards to Hermigua

Wednesday 1st March 2017

KE Adventure Travel Trip Notes

Walking up and out of the valley, we first make a short but relatively steep ascent of Roque El Cano, a very distinctive volcanic outcrop clearly seen from Vallehermoso and featured on the town's coat of arms. We then continue with stunning scenery to Las Rosas and the National Park Visitors’ Centre at Juego de Bolas. Here we can stop for some sugar cookies and a cup of Earl Grey from the small café. After lunch we walk down into the Barranco Sobre Argoto before ascending again to the viewpoint of El Chorillo for a sensational vista over Hermigua Valley 800 metres below us. We make a steep descent on a switch-back path set cleverly into the rock face to reach Agulo. Depending on the time we may opt to catch a local bus here for the last 4 or 5 kilometres to Hermigua. This a small town has a very attractive setting in a wide valley between two high ridges which come right down to the sea, with terraced fields on one side and the coast on the other.
