Stage 20. Fornovo di Taro to Cassio

  This stage is not a long one, but it is constantly uphill making it hard. In the first part you climb gently among pastures and meadows, and in the summer you can watch the gathering of hay, an essential ingredient for the production of the zone's outstanding iem, Parmeggiano Reggiano cheese. It is hard to ignore the many dairies that stand alongside the provincial A-road 39, a road that faithfully follows the historic route across Mount Bardone. There are some beautiful Romanesque parish churches and reminders of pilgrimage along the route.
