Leaving Howe Green along the old A130 we joined the Old Southend Road about a kilometer after the last pinch points. Here we took a left, walking up the road past Claydon Clinic and Little Claydons eventually coming back onto the old A130 again. Crossing the road we took Downhouse Bridge over the new A130 to Downhouse Farm. Here the path turns right along a farm track parallel with the new A130. After passing two galvanized gates we came to a culvert under the new A130. We could have turned right here to get back to Howe Green, but instead we went over the footbridge over a small stream and carried on. The path turned to the left and came up to Little Sir Hughes house. The actual path goes through Little Sir Hughes garden by means of a pair of 5-bar gates, or alternatively you can walk and extra 10 meters and walk round the side of the house on a farm track. The tarmac road continues until you reach a junction; the left hand road does to Great Sir Hughes house. We carried on until we came to he West Hanningfield Road, next to the bridge over the A 12. Following the road we passed Great Mascalls Farm, and then came to a roundabout next to the old Marconi buildings. This is where the Phoenix Hospital is located. Continuing along this road we came into Church Street, Great Baddow. Here we turned right, past Pitt Place and Pitt Cottage before passing over the bridge over the A1114 road. We kept right here, past Baddow Lawn Tennis Club back to the roundabouts at the A12. Here is was a short walk up Gingerbread Hill back home. |

Past Great Mascalls Farm. We walked along the road but there is a path through Great Mascalls Farm and across the fields which comes out at the same place.
