Day 19 Carrion de los Condes to Terradillos de los Templarios

Sunday 26th May 2013

24 km - 5.5 hrs

I departed ay 6-30 a.m. and stopped briefly in Carrion de los Condes for breakfast. I met Herbert (Austria) on the way out of town but he was not going quite as quickly as myself. Herbert had declared earlier that he did not even try to keep up with me as I went like a "Sewing Machine"! I just loved Herbert's description of my walking style!

I was soon on the "Via Aquitana Calzada Romana" Roman road where I met up again with Davide from Italy. He had done 40 km in one day to keep to a tight schedule, but had taken time off the following day to relax. He was proud that the Romans had built the road that we were on; actually it was dead straight and we had to walk it for three and a half hours before coming to Calzadilla de la Cueza, and quite frankly I was beginning to wish that it had been built by the British with a few more bends and deviations on it! But for those we a weak constitution, the warning is to use the facilities in Carrion before setting out!

On the Roman Road

Another "dead" boot

A rest place on the Roman Road.... but no toilets!

And on and on the road goes!

At last, approaching Calzadilla de la Cueza

Everybody made a bee line for the only cafe... Lena, Gary, Regina, Katie

Local people out for a walk in Legidos..... you always get a respectful "Buen Camino" from them

There is an albergue available in Legidos but I preferred to go on to Terradillos de los Templarios where there is the new "Los Templarios" albergue and the well established "Jacques de Molay albergue". It took 5.5 hours in all to reach the albergue.
