Camino Frances - 2014

Ourense

The train journey itself between Monforte de Lemos and Santiago de Compostela is scenic enough to make the journey worthwhile, but half way along lies Ourense. I was keen to visit Ourense to see the Roman Bridge, the Hot Springs and the historic Cathedral area.

The train from Monforte to Ourense - ETD 11:04 hrs ETA 12-03 hrs. The train pulls into the station
and goes back out the same way; you need to be on the left hand side of the train in the direction
of travel to get the best view of the gorge.

As Burgas - hot springs which release 300 liters per minute of water between 64 and 67 degrees C.
They have special medicinal properties, especially the treatment of itchy skin

The hotel that I selected was the "Puente Romano" I had expected it to be near the Roman Bridge
of the same name. However, when I picked up a tourist map at the station, the railway station
was not shown, being off the bottom, and the street for the Hotel Puente Romano was not
shown either, being off the top. It was an 8 euro taxi ride from the station and the description of a
"central location" was pushing it a bit! Nevertheless it was a comfortable and reasonably priced hotel.
