We had never thought of holidaying in Mauritius until, in early March 2001, our good friends from Tokyo Sue and Jeff Scougall contacted us to say that they had been posted to Mauritius by the Australian Government. Jeff was approaching retirement and had been offered a final overseas posting as the Australian High Commisioner. They commented that Mauritius was a lovely place but that is was a long way from anywhere and it was unlikely that anyone would ever visit them there. Three weeks later we were on a plane to Mauritius!
