Northern Spain Trip

Bulnes

It is a three and a half mile drive from Arenas de Cabrales to Poncebos, to the lower end of the Funicular de Bulnes , a tunnel railway built in 2001 that climbs 2km inside the mountain to the hamlet of Bulnes, which is inaccessible by road. The funicular functions year-round, making the ten-minute trip every half-hour in either direction, with a break between 12-30 p.m. and 2 p.m. The return journey costs 21.94 euro, 17.44 euro for the up leg and 4.50 euro for the down leg. When you emerge at the top of the funicular there is no sign of the village of Bulnes, but it is soon reached after a 5 minute walk. The views are stunning.
