For people going to the cable car from the town there is a series of escalators in a tunnel to carry them upwards.
Our hotel was to the west in a quiet part of town, and we were able to walk 800 meters to the cable car.

LA CURTA

"La Curta" is the very popular pedestrian connection between the center of Ortisei (Piazza S. Antonio) and the valley station of the Seceda cable car. Each year, more than 1 million people, both guests and locals, use the escalators to move around the town. The tunnel is open around the clock, but the escalators are not working during the night. This is the first connection of this type and size in the entire Alpine region.

This connection consists of 6 covered escalators and 4 gangways located in a tunnel. Total height difference: 59 m - total length: 295m.
Ortisei is connected via this connection and the Seceda cable cars directly to the Sellaronda.

The cable car seems to get uncomfortably close to the rock face as you get to the top!

The Grouse

Hello, I am the largest grouse in Europe. I live in sparse conifer forests. I am not very good at flying and move mostly on the ground. I am a herbivore and feed on berries, sprouts and tiny insects. Sometimes I am also aggressive so an encounter with me is to be avoided.

The Chamois

Hello, I am a chamois and live mainly in herds high up in the mountains, above the tree line. My favorite food consists of young shoots of trees or shrubs, grasses and moss. I am a good climber. My enemies are the big predators.

The Hazel Grouse

Hello, I am a hazel grouse. I am strictly protected as I am very rare. I prefer the stony areas of the high mountains. My diet varies a lot according to the seasons.

The Viper

Hello, I am a viper. I am calm and lazy, but I do not like being disturbed. If I can't escape, I strike. My bite is poisonous, but rarely deadly. My head is triangular and marked by an inverted V. I mainly live in dry and stony areas and feed on small animals like mice and moles.

Alpine Rock Partridge

Hello, we are Alpine Rock Partridges and we belong to the pheasant family. Our plumage colour is unmistakable in our blue-gray chest and back. Our chirping is unique. We prefer mountainous and rocky areas and feed on plants, berries, cereals and small insects.

The Buzzard

Hello, I am a buzzard. I am a bird of prey and live in open countryside such as meadows, fields and heath lands. In winter I'm drawn to warmer areas and on my menu there are small mammals, insects and earthworms.

Reassuring. Only 30 minutes to Selva.

Forty minutes via Route 17A

Route 3 was shut, so we had to walk along the road for a while

By Villa Solinda (on the left) we picked up Route 17A and contoured round.

From 17A we dropped down a steep path to the road, turned right and then left to find our
accommodation for the night B&B Garni Morene.
