The West Highland Way begins in the suburb of Milngavie (pronounced "Mullguy") on the northern edge of Glasgow. The walk officially starts at an obelisk in the centre of the town, and the first 6 miles meander along gentle paths through amenity parks and woodland. The path goes along a disused railway track for a while, with the Glengoyne Distillery a short detour off to the right. Eventually the trail breaks out on to a minor road for the 3 km walk into Drymen....... a long 3 kilometers as all you want at the end of your first day is the comfort of the B&B.

Ready for off at the Official Start Point in Milngavie

Our first day was wet and overcast, but still enjoyable walking
