The Michelin guide may tell you that it is 5 hrs and 16.5 km to Conques, but in practice I got here much quicker, and my GPs told me 3 hrs 10 mins and 12.66 km. It came as a surprise when I first say the sign "Conques" and I could not believe that I had got there so quick!

No Man's Land; There are two doors; once is graceful and ornate, and curved with two keyholes for the lock. The other is angular, with heavy metal supports and no keyholes. The chosen ones are being led by the hand to heaven's door and received by angels. In front of the door to hell, diabolic monsters strike the dammed and cast them into the open jaws of Leviathan. Under the nose of the monster wielding a bludgeon, a human being seems to be emerging from a central pillar, caught just in time by the angel of mercy.

My room in Conques could not have been better situated, being on the square in front of the Abbey about 20 yards from the tympanum!

The window of my room is on the second floor, on the left (with shutters)
