Trip to Provence, France

Pont du Gard

Some twenty kilometers from Nimes, the Pont du Gard is the greatest surviving stretch of the fifty-kilometer-long aquaduct built by the Romans in 19 A.D. With just a 17-meter difference in height between the start and the finish, the water course was quite an engineering achievement. Three tiers of arches span the River Gard, with the covered water conduit on the top tier.
