Northern Spain Trip
| After visiting Bulnes on the funicular railway we walked to the start of the Cares Gorge Trail, a 12 km walk along a precipitous gorge that runs from near Poncebos to Cain. We actually left our car at the Funicular Railway carpark and walked up the hill, but it is possible to drive up and park near the start of the Cares Gorge. We did not have time to walk the gorge this time, as after walking the 12 km you have the choice of walking back again or arranging for transport at the other end. Our aim was just to have a look-see. There was evidence of falling rocks on the short part of the trail that we walked; a mountaineering hard hat would not be a bad idea for those wanting to walk the entire gorge. In parts the trail is cut into a groove in the rock, like an open sided tunnel, with huge drops at the side. |
